Field Observation and Experiment Station on Ecological Agriculture in Miyun of CAAS

The Field Observation and Experiment Station on Ecological Agriculture in Miyun, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) (hereinafter referred to as “the Station”) was established in 1999, and recognized as an academy-level field observation station by CAAS in 2009.

The Station locates to south of the Miyun Reservoir, Beijing in northern mountain and typical agroforestry area. It consists of three areas and four observation sites. Three areas include a core experiment area, a vegetation restoration area, and a protection area, and four observation sites include a soil erosion observation site in the Yanshan mountain area, a forest and grass ecological observation site, the Yanshan community succession observation site, and a soil ecology observation site for maize-oilseed rape rotation.

The main research work conducted at the Station includes long-term monitoring on the structure, function and succession of ecosystems in the Yanshan mountain area, water-saving technology and demonstration of dryland farming, sustainable development models for agriculture and rural areas, utilization and development of biomass energy, and ecological environment in urban and suburb area. In addition, the Station aims to explore regional rural development models, protected agriculture construction, and natural reserves (wetland) maintenance and sustainable development technology that match local resources and environmental conditions.
