IARRP Team showcases smart pasture innovations at 8th AOGEO Workshop

IARRP | Updated: 2026-04-09

From March 27 to 28, the Innovation Team of Grassland Ecology and Remote Sensing participated in the 8th Asian-Oceanian Group on Earth Observations Workshop (8th AOGEO Workshop), where it presented its latest research progress and technological achievements in the field of smart pasture systems, drawing wide attention from participating experts.

At the workshop, the team's chief scientist Xin Xiaoping delivered a keynote presentation titled "Advancing 'Earth Intelligence for All': An Integrated System for Smart Grazing and Precision Grassland-Livestock Management in the Eurasian Steppe." Centered on the concept of Earth Intelligence, the presentation systematically outlined an integrated technological framework for smart grazing and precision grassland-livestock management across the Eurasian steppe.

The system integrates multi-source remote sensing observations with ground-based monitoring data, forming a comprehensive framework that spans high-precision pasture mapping, virtual fencing, intelligent herding, and an integrated cloud platform. The report highlighted key technologies and practical pathways for intelligent grazing and precision livestock management on natural grasslands, and their application prospects, offering new insights for promoting green and high-quality development of the grassland-livestock sector.

In addition, Assistant Researcher Zou Chu presented hardware products developed under the project "Key Technologies for Intelligent Grazing and Precision Grassland-Livestock Management." These devices are closely aligned with real-world pastoral production needs and include wearable and wheeled robots capable of intelligent herding and path guidance for cattle and sheep, wearable devices for monitoring beef cattle behavior, and non-destructive grassland biomass measurement instruments. Together, they provide powerful tools for digital management and science-based decision-making in smart pasture systems.
