The APEC Workshop on Protecting and Enhancing of Cultivated Land Resources to Promote Food System Transformation was successfully held in Beijing on Oct 16–17. Hosted by the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning (IARRP) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and co-organized by the Belt and Road International Agricultural Green Development (IAGD) Innovation Institute, the event attracted over 100 participants.

Attendees included representatives from government agencies and research institutions across 10 APEC member economies—including Australia, Chile, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, Peru, Thailand, and Viet Nam—as well as from the University of Göttingen (Germany) and the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). The opening ceremony, chaired by Dr. Yi Keke, Deputy Director General of IARRP, featured officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and CAAS's Bureau of International Cooperation. Participants joined both online and in person.

The workshop featured 17 expert presentations from APEC member economies and institutions including IARRP-CAAS, Institute of Environment and Sustainable Development in Agriculture (CAAS), China Agricultural University, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, and Tiangong University. The presentations covered a range of topics, including climate change and farmland resilience, development and utilization of reserve farmland in China, soil protection and quality enhancement, field greenhouse gas emissions, food system transformation and upgrading. Active discussions between speakers and participants further deepened exchanges on key issues.

The workshop was officially included in the "APEC Food Security Roadmap Towards 2030" and its Implementation Plan, following approval by the APEC Agricultural Technical Cooperation Working Group. It served as a platform to showcase IARRP's latest research achievements in agricultural resource management, further strengthening the institute's international academic influence and laying a solid foundation for future pragmatic scientific collaboration among APEC economies.
