Nutrition Expert System helps national fertilizer reduction and efficiency

Chemical fertilizer is an important input related to national food security. The scientific and rational application of chemical fertilizer is of great significance to ensure national food security.

In order to implement the spirit of the central rural work conference on further promoting the reduction and efficiency of agricultural input and effectively reducing the cost of fertilizer use by farmers, on April 28, the Planting Management Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs held a video activity on chemical fertilizer reduction and efficiency improvement in the National Agricultural Technology Promotion Center.

The meeting was chaired by Xu Jingying, Director of the Fertilizer and Water Saving Division of the Planting Management Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and more than 170 people from the Agricultural and Rural Departments of various provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities), the Agricultural and Rural Bureau of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, the Beidahuang Group Co.,Ltd and the Guangdong Agribusiness Group Corporation attended the training session online.

Researcher He Ping from the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning (IARRP) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), was invited to attend the meeting and gave a training on "intelligent recommended fertilization methods and NE system" to help reduce the amount of chemical fertilizers and increase efficiency.

He introduced an intelligent recommended fertilization method based on yield response and agronomic efficiency and the principle and implementation effect of Nutrient Expert (NE) system to guide fertilization in view of the problems and challenges faced by China's recommended fertilization, and demonstrated the installation and use of the NE system.

Xu fully affirmed the role of the NE system in optimizing fertilization and reducing fertilizer application and increasing efficiency. Xu also said that it is necessary to speed up the process of intelligent recommended fertilization, give full play to the important role of the NE system in creating an upgraded version of fertilizer reduction and efficiency, effectively solve the bottleneck of the last mile of recommended fertilization, and realize the intelligent leap of recommended fertilization.

The principle of the recommended fertilization method based on yield response and agronomic efficiency is as follows: based on large number of agronomic database from field fertilizer experiments, the soil nutrient supply capacity is characterized according to the level of crop yield response after fertilization, and the crop rotation system and organic fertilizer are comprehensively considered, and give a set of recommended fertilization programs based on crop 4R nutrient management principles.

For the convenience of users, information technology is used to simplify the complex recommended fertilization principle into a user-friendly NE system. Users only need to provide the yield level and fertilization history in previous years, and then they can give specific fertilization plans based on the personalized information of the plot.
