Fertilizer green value-added technology selected as new technology for China's agriculture and rural areas in 2021

The "2021 China Agriculture and Rural Science and Technology Development Summit Forum and China Modern Agriculture Development Forum", co-sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Chinese Society of Agriculture, and the Science and Technology Development Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, were held in Beijing on Nov 19.

The forums released China's agricultural and rural major new technologies, products and equipment.

The "Green Value-Added Fertilizer Technology" developed by professor Zhao Bingqiang's team from the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning (IARRP) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) was selected as the 2021 China Agricultural and Rural Major New Technologies, New Products and New Equipment-Top Ten New Technologies.

The technology, taking the green and efficient transformation and upgrading of traditional urea, ammonium phosphate, and compound fertilizer products as the strategic goal, opens up a new way for developing green fertilizer by employing bioactive organic synergists, creates a theory of "fertilizer-crop-soil" system integrated regulation to develop green fertilizer, breaks through the key technology of bioactive synergist with characteristics of small amount being used but great effects to be achieved, and invents a series of new green fertilizer products with synergistic regulation of "fertilizer-crop-soil" to improve nutrient use efficiency.

The technology also includes value-added urea, value-added ammonium phosphate and value-added compound fertilizer with high-nutrient use efficiency, which are manufactured by large-scale chemical fertilizer production equipment with one go and no need for secondary processing to achieve the goal of large production capacity with low processing cost. The new technology provides scientific and technological support for the green transformation and upgrading of the chemical fertilizer industry.

The technology has won five Chinese patent excellence awards and has been industrialized in a large area of the country's urea, ammonium phosphate, and compound fertilizer companies. Various trademarks have been registered for value-added fertilizers, and more than 20 of them, such as Xin-Fu-Suan, Ju-An-Xin, Da-Hei-Niu, Mei-Lin-Mei and so on, have become well-known brands in China. With an annual output of 15 million tons of green value-added fertilizers, it has become the world's largest type of green high-efficiency fertilizer, with an annual promotion area of 450 million mu, an increase of 10 billion kilograms of crops, and an increase of farmers' incomes by 20 billion yuan. The value-added fertilizer was invented in China and made in China, providing a Chinese model for the green transformation and upgrading of the world's bulk fertilizer products.
