Researcher Zhou Wei named new academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering

Zhou Wei is currently the Deputy Director General, researcher, and doctoral supervisor of the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning (IARRP) of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS).

The Chinese Academy of Engineering announced its list of academicians co-opted for 2021 on Nov 18, and researcher Zhou Wei was elected as an academician of the Faculty of Agriculture.

Born in Aug 1966 in Hukou county, Jiangxi province, Zhou is a plant nutritionist and a member of the Communist Party of China. He is currently the Deputy Director General, researcher, and doctoral supervisor of the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning (IARRP) of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS).

Zhou has long been engaged in the research of soil fertility and high-efficient fertilization.

In view of the large area of medium and low-yield fields, the lack of nutrient elements, and the low utilization of fertilizers, Zhou has done pioneering research in solving the obstacles of low-yield soil, overcoming the bottleneck of the lack of medium elements, and innovating recommended fertilization methods.

In addition, Zhou also served as the director of the Key Laboratory of Plant Nutrition and Fertilizer of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the vice chairman of the Chinese Plant Nutrition and Fertilizer Society, the chief scientist of the 973 Program, and the chief expert of scientific research projects for public welfare industries. He was awarded the National May 1st Labor Medal and the leading talent of the National Special Support Program for High-level Talents, and won 3 second prizes in the National Science and Technology Progress Awards and 3 first prizes at the provincial and ministerial level as the first person-in-charge.
