The 13th National Academy of Agricultural Sciences Soil and Fertilizer Research Institute Management and Development Seminar was held in Zhengding, Hebei province from Oct 16 to 18.

The seminar was sponsored by the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning (IARRP) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), and undertaken by the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Environment, Hebei Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences.

Yu Xinrong, former deputy secretary of the Party leadership group and deputy minister of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, chairman of the China Agricultural Green Development Research Association, and Liu Xianwu, vice president of the CAAS attended the meeting. The report stage of the seminar was presided over by Wu Wenbin, deputy director of the IARRP .

With the theme "Science and Technology Innovation Leading the Protection and Utilization of Cultivated Land", the seminar focused on the national food security and agricultural green development strategy, and featured in-depth exchanges on basic theoretical innovation, key technology research and development, and regional integrated solutions in the fields of soil, fertilizer and environment.

Yu delivered a keynote report titled "Promoting the Green Transformation of Cultivated Land Protection and Utilization with New Development Concepts", expounding on the significance and practical role of green development in the protection and utilization of cultivated land. The main direction of the scientific and technological innovation of cultivated land in the new stage is to continuously promote the green transformation of cultivated land protection and utilization, and make greater contributions to solving the problem of cultivated land.

The seminar pointed out that cultivated land is the foundation of the country's food security and high-quality agricultural and rural development. As a national agricultural strategic scientific and technological force, the CAAS is stepping up the implementation of major scientific and technological research on cultivated land. The seminar also called on national arable land scientific and technological forces to cooperate and give full play to the leading and supporting role of arable land scientific and technological innovation in the protection and utilization of arable land.

Wu said that it is necessary to coordinate the superior scientific and technological forces of the country's agricultural resources and environment to further focus on major scientific and technological issues in the field of arable land, and focus on the protection and efficient use of arable land resources.

More than 150 people from the Farmland Construction Management Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the relevant leaders of the Hebei Provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, as well as leaders and industry experts from the Soil, Fertilizer, Resources and Environment Research Institute of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences attended the meeting.
