He Yingbin participates in APEC PPFS Annual Meeting

He Yingbin, research fellow at the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, participated in the virtual meeting of the APEC Policy Partnership on Food Security Meeting (PPFS) on Oct 15.  

He was a member of the Chinese delegation led by Han Jizhi, head of the Policy and Regulation Department of the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration.

Representatives from 18 members including Australia, Canada, Chile, China, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, the Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, the United States, and Vietnam took part in the meeting.

Representatives of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) and APEC Policy Support Unit (PSU) attended the meeting, which was chaired by Ms. Abdul Hamid, a senior officer of PPFS from Malaysia.

Members of the APEC Policy Support Unit introduced an assessment of the impact of COVID-19 on food security in APEC regions as well as countermeasures and suggestions. They also discussed balancing supply and demand of grain and restoring its industrial chain, among other topics.

A Malaysian representative reported the assessment and analysis results summarized in the "APEC Food Security Roadmap 2020" questionnaire to the meeting, and made some constructive suggestions.

The meeting also reviewed the draft Joint Statement of the upcoming APEC Ministerial Interim Meeting on Food Security to be held on Oct 27. He Yingbin joined in the discussion and put forward suggestions.
