IARRP expert shares progress of China's agricultural digital technology innovation at WFF

Under the 2022 theme of "Healthy Diets. Healthy Planet." the World Food Forum (WFF) took place from 17 to 21 October at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome, Italy.

Building on last year's success, the forum comprised the WFF Global Youth Forum, the FAO Science and Innovation Forum and the FAO Hand-in-Hand Investment Forum.

Wu Wenbin, Chief researcher of the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning (IARRP) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), was invited to participate in the FAO Science and Innovation Forum online.

On the 19th, Wu Wenbin participated in the "Global Crop Mapping" during the FAO Science and innovation Forum and made a conference report titled "Crop monitoring in China: the CHARMS".

Wu introduced the research and development and overall application of the system, and focused on sharing China's innovative progress in multi-source data fusion of crop remote sensing mapping, the rapid collection of crop samples, the optimization of crop identification features, crop mapping technology and data products of different scales, as well as putting forward some thoughts and suggestions on global crop mapping.

On the 20th, Wu participated in the themed forum on "The Role of Digital Technology in Agriculture Production/Consumption" and gave a speech.

Wu introduced China's experience and practices in using digital technology to link the entire agricultural industry, optimize the entire link, and empower the entire process. In addition, he also pointed out that the digital transformation of agriculture is a gradual, complex and systematic transformation process, which requires multiple innovations in terms of policies, systems, technologies, talents, and business models to build an ecosystem for digital transformation.

The "Global Crop Mapping" event at the FAO Science and innovation Forum was hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). At the meeting, the FAO proposed a new global crop mapping plan - "Soil-Land-Water Digital Integrated Information System" advocating for the establishment of a SoLaWISe global partnership.

The themed forum "The Role of Digital Technologies in Agriculture Production/Consumption" was organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Technology(OSET), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the European Union Joint Research Center, and aims to support the promotion of scientific and technological innovation activities, as well as the transformation and development of global agriculture to become more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable, and effectively address climate change, land degradation, and biodiversity.
