During the 23rd World Congress of Soil Science (WCSS 2026) held in Nanjing, China, the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning (IARRP), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, successfully organized the scientific session "Leveraging Site and Spatial Data for Soil Monitoring" on June 9. Convened and chaired by Research Professor Yu Qiangyi, the session brought together leading experts from around the world to exchange the latest advances and practical experiences in soil monitoring research.

The session featured 13 oral presentations by experts from China, Australia, Italy, the Netherlands, Russia, Canada, and Germany. Participants discussed the use of historical and field observation data for soil monitoring, advances in data assimilation methods, and the development of soil data platforms.

Chinese researchers shared practical applications in soil monitoring equipment development, cultivated land quality monitoring network optimization, soil carbon estimation, and soil pH mapping. International experts introduced experiences in sensor technologies, soil mapping methods, and global soil data management and sharing platforms.

The session provided an important platform for international exchange and cooperation in soil monitoring and offered valuable insights for the integration of results and database development under China's third national soil survey.
