IARRP team publishes review paper in Reviews of Geophysics

By IARRP | Updated: 2023-01-29

The Innovation Team of Agricultural Remote Sensing of the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning (IARRP) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) was invited to publish a long review paper titled "Satellite Remote Sensing of Global Land Surface Temperature: Definition, Methods, Products, and Applications" in "Reviews of Geophysics" (IF= 24.946) .

Based on the review of remotely sensed land surface temperature (LST) inversion methods published by team members in "Remote Sensing of Environment" in 2013, and combined with the development background of remotely sensed LST products in recent years, the paper comprehensively and systematically reviewed the definition of LST, inversion methods, validation methods, mainstream products, and product applications.

Focusing on key algorithms for the development of remotely sensed LST products, the parameter characteristics of mainstream products, product accuracy differences, main problems and typical applications, detailed introductions and discussions were carried out, and research prospects were provided for the development and application of future LST standardization products. Among them, through the comparative analysis of existing mainstream products, the paper points out the differences among the products in detail, and makes a detailed analysis of the key problems of existing products, such as spatial discontinuity, spatiotemporal incomparability, and short time span. The paper not only helps the professional TIR community understand the progress in LST retrieval and validation methods and gain scientific insights into and solutions for key challenges in LST products, but also facilitates product users to understand the LST product levels, sources, uncertainties, differences, and typical applications.

"Reviews of Geophysics", sponsored by the American Geophysical Union (AGU), is the most influential review journal in the field of geosciences and space sciences, involving geophysics, earthquakes, remote sensing, the atmosphere, oceans, space and other disciplines, and publishes around 20 invited papers each year.

Duan Sibo, professor of the IARRP, and Zhao Wei, professor of the Chengdu Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, are the corresponding authors of the paper. This work is supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China Innovative Research Group Project "Agricultural Remote Sensing Mechanisms and Methods".
