On March 6, 2011, Dr. Tang Huajun, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Dr. John Aber, Vice President of the University of New Hampshire, United States, signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the Establishment of the Sustainable Agro-Ecosystems Joint Research Laboratory between the University of New Hampshire of the United States and the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. On June 7 of the same year, Dr. Tang and Tom Brady, Dean of the College of Life Sciences and Agriculture of the University of New Hampshire, attended the opening ceremony of the laboratory in Beijing.

Focused on agricultural development and environmental protection, the laboratory conducts academic exchanges and scientific and technological cooperation in the fields of agricultural ecosystems and global changes, agricultural non-point source pollution prevention and control, agricultural remote sensing, and digital agriculture. In addition, it works on strengthening joint research and development, increasing personnel training, enhancing the scientific and technological innovation capabilities of both sides, and providing strong technical support for the sustainable development of agriculture in China.
