On Sep 11, Li Lifeng, Director of the Land and Water Resources Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization at the United Nations (FAO), visited the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning (IARRP) at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS). The meeting chaired by Wu Wenbin, focused on discussions about cutting-edge agricultural technologies and multilateral cooperation. 

During the meeting, Wu warmly welcomed Li and provided a comprehensive overview of IARRP's recent technological innovations and international collaborations. Key innovation teams highlighted significant achievements in areas such as soil degradation control, new fertilizer recommendations, comprehensive management of saline-alkali land, and smart agriculture monitoring. Director Wu emphasized that, with the support of the National Saline-alkali Land Comprehensive Utilization Technology Innovation Center and the National Key Laboratory for Efficient Utilization of Arable Land, IARRP will deepen its collaboration within the FAO Global Soil Partnership (GSP) framework, further integrate into the international network of technological innovation, actively participate in global soil health governance, and advance South-South Cooperation Fund projects to promote sustainable agricultural transformation in the region.

Li expressed full recognition of IARRP's technological innovation capabilities, noting that its research fields are constantly expanding, with ongoing breakthroughs, particularly in climate change adaptation, efficient resource use, and soil restoration. He highlighted that these achievements not only have significant implications for China's agricultural development but also provide valuable insights for global agricultural sustainability. Li emphasized the potential for future collaboration, focusing on climate-resilient agriculture, and outlined cooperative efforts through international platforms, technical capacity building, and talent exchange. These include collaborative efforts in global degraded land management and restoration, accelerating the international innovation conference on saline-alkali land utilization, establishing smart monitoring and early warning systems for soil protection and efficient use, and promoting the application of the "Nutrient Expert System" in countries along the Belt and Road Initiative and in Africa. This cooperation aims to contribute to global food security, enhance climate resilience, and promote rural prosperity.
