The "Sino-German Workshop on Food and Nutrition-Strategies and Research" was held in Beijing during Sino-German Agricultural Week on December 3. The workshop was co-sponsored by the Department of International Cooperation of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the Foreign Economic Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and was undertaken by the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. More than 140 Chinese and German government officials, research institution executives, experts and scholars attended the workshop, and 200 people watched the network broadcast.

The opening ceremony of the workshop was addressed by Sun Tan, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and Maja Clausen, Coordinator of the Research and Innovation Department of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture of Germany. The two pointed out that food security and nutrition are becoming a hot issue around the world. China and Germany will continue to cooperate in agricultural science and technology and share research progress and academic views, so as to promote the development of green agriculture in the two countries and global food security as a whole.

The participants discussed issues such as food system transformation and dietary changes in the post-pandemic era through video and on-site meetings based on topics such as “food security”, “food nutrition”, and “food system and diet structure transformation”, and exchanged views on ecological agriculture, the impact of the pandemic on food security and food trade, food loss and waste, and the contribution of digital technology to food security.
