Professor Robert Sandlerskiy visits the Hulunbuir Grassland Research Station

From Aug 18 to 29, Professor Robert Sandlerskiy from National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE University) in Russia visited China for an academic exchange at the invitation of Dr. Shao Changliang from the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning (IARRP), Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS). During his stay, he delivered a lecture entitled "Catalogue of Ecolic and Climate Stations of Russia", where he shared HSE's research outcomes and practices in ecological conservation and long-term monitoring at international field stations, offering unique perspectives on addressing climate change.

On Aug 22, he toured the Hulunbuir Grassland Ecosystem station in Inner Mongolia autonomous region, where he discussed research techniques with local scientists and expressed interest in long-term collaboration with the IARRP. He highlighted opportunities for enhanced academic exchange and joint research between China and Russia in ecology.

Professor Robert Sandlerskiy is a landscape geographer and ecologist, serving as Director of the International Laboratory of Landscape Ecology at the Faculty of Geography and Geoinformation Technology, HSE University. He is also a member of the International Association for Landscape Ecology (IALE) and the Russian Geographical Society, as well as a leading participant in scientific expeditions on the Mongolian Plateau. With over 15 years of research experience, he has published more than 40 scientific papers on landscape assessment, state evaluation, and habitat mapping using remote sensing and mathematical methods. His expertise also covers landscape cover mapping, ecological trail system planning, and integrated agroforestry land-use assessment and technology development.
