IARRP hosts international seminar on green development technologies

By IARRP | Updated: 2023-11-15

The International Seminar on Frontiers of Agricultural Green Development Technologies and Basic Research, supported by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs and the China Agricultural Association, was held in Beijing on Nov 11.

The conference was organized by the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning (IARRP) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, with the opening ceremony addressed by Wang Xiufang, secretary of the Party Committee at IARRP, and chaired by Dr. Gao Maofang, a researcher in the field of agricultural remote sensing. Fourteen experts and scholars from four countries delivered speeches at the conference, with more than 60 experts and scholars from China, Egypt, Mongolia, Australia, and other countries in attendance.

The conference focused on topics such as the path of agricultural green development, agricultural development under the impact of climate change, and research and application of agricultural remote sensing monitoring, aiming to explore new models for modern agricultural development and promote global cooperation in agricultural remote sensing monitoring technology, supporting the construction of the green agricultural technology industry chain. Dr. Mohamed Ali Fahim, the advisor to the Minister of Agriculture in Egypt and director of the Climate Change Information Center, analyzed the transformation and innovation of agricultural systems under the background of climate change. Mohamed Abdrabou Ahmed, director of the Central Laboratory for Agriculture Climate, discussed the impact of land cover types and irrigation on productivity. Bolormaa Damdinsuren, a researcher at the Mongolian Livestock Research Institute, introduced the productivity and nutritional value of major grassland types in Mongolia. Dr. Liang Xia from the University of Melbourne, Australia, explored the understanding and application of nitrogen index from the perspective of evidence-based sustainable agricultural food systems. Researcher Yin Changbin from IARRP detailed the green development path and policy support for Chinese agriculture.

The atmosphere of this international seminar was enthusiastic, and all participating experts unanimously agreed that future agricultural green development should not only focus on the path of agricultural green development but also address the challenges faced by agriculture under the background of climate change. They emphasized the need for the integration of cutting-edge technology with production, as well as the importance of implementing technology on the ground. Additionally, they stressed the significance of remote sensing monitoring on a regional scale, rather than just focusing on point data collection. Moreover, as part of the Belt and Road series of activities, this seminar showcased China's fruitful achievements in agricultural green development to the world, enhancing its international influence in relevant fields and promoting collaboration and exchange among domestic and foreign scholars in agricultural green development and remote sensing monitoring.
