Updated: 2025-11-18

On Nov 6, 2025, the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Regional Planning of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (IARRP, CAAS) and the High School Affiliated with the Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT High School) held a signing ceremony to formalize their collaboration  in establishing the "BIT High School Science Education Practice Base." Zhang Jizong, Deputy Director General of IARRP, and Wang Pang, Vice Principal of BIT High School, represented their respective institutions at the event which was hosted by Jiang Hao, Deputy Director of the Graduate Education Office of IARRP. Researchers from IARRP's non-point source pollution team and fertilizer nutrient management team, as well as teachers from BIT High School's Center for Characteristic Development and its Advanced Research Laboratories in Biotechnology and Geographical Science, attended the ceremony.

Before the signing ceremony, representatives from BIT High School toured the IARRP exhibition hall. Deputy Director General Zhang Jizong provided an overview of IARRP's development, disciplinary layout, scientific platforms, talent pool and soil and fertilizer specimen repository, offering the visiting teachers a comprehensive insights into the institute's scientific capabilities  and its long-standing academic foundation.

During the signing session, the two sides held in-depth discussions on collaboration in science education practice. Li Xiaoman from the Biotechnology Advanced Research Laboratory and Shi Huijin from the Geographical Science Advanced Research Laboratory presented BIT High School's "Advanced Research Laboratory Program," which was launched in 2023. Since its inception, the program has established 11 high-level laboratories across five major fields—geographical science, biochemical materials, physical engineering, economic engineering, and intelligent manufacturing—enabling students to achieve remarkable innovative outcomes through hands-on research practice. Fan Bingqian, Associate Research Fellow of IARRP's non-point source pollution team, delivered a systematic presentation on the team's research directions and potential application prospects.

In the subsequent discussion session, IARRP professor Lei Qiuliang and Xu Xinpeng, along with Associate professor Fan Bingqian, exchanged views with Jin Ping, Director of the Center for Characteristic Development of BIT High School, and Deputy Director Zhang Yan. Topics included mentoring secondary school students on research project and designing science practice courses. The meeting concluded with summaries by Zhang Jizong and Wang Pang.

Participants agreed that the cooperation establishes a strong bridge linking cutting-edge scientific research resources with foundational education, They expressed a shared expectation that the partnership will yield fruitful outcomes in cultivating scientific curiosity, innovation capacity, and hands-on skills among young students.
