The Key Field Observation and Experiment Station on Dry Farming in Luoyang of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China (formerly known as the Ministry of Agriculture of China) was established in 1998 as one of the earliest field experiment stations on dry farming research in China. Named a key field observation and experiment station of the Ministry of Agriculture in 2005, it has developed into an important research platform for dry farming research.

The station, located in Luolong District, Luoyang, Henan province, is in the semi-humid and semi-arid continental monsoon climate zone with good and typical agricultural ecological conditions and is one of the important grain production areas in China. It boasts excellent facilities including a comprehensive experiment office building, and is equipped with experimental instruments for field environmental weather factor monitoring and soil moisture and nutrient analysis. It also has a long-term experiment platform for conservation tillage and soil fertility evolution.

The station focuses on research on the mechanism of water and nutrient dynamics in dry farmland ecosystems and on ways to improve utilization efficiency. Using agricultural ecology research methods and long-term observation data acquisition technology the station conducts long-term and monitoring of material and energy processes in farmland ecosystems and has accumulated a large amount of scientific data.

In addition, it studies the characteristics of nutrient water cycles, dynamic mechanism, and their relationship with agricultural productivity and the control methods of farmland ecosystems. It also explores the impact of farmland management measures such as farming and fertilization on yields and the farmland environment and integrates agricultural water-saving technologies suitable for regional characteristics as well as farmland water and fertilizer optimal management technological models, working on their demonstration, promotion and application. In general it provides a scientific basis and supporting technical models for the development of high-quality, efficient and sustainable agriculture.
